Generational mainstays, Melvins have unveiled the next phase of their 40th anniversary festivities with the confirmation of the Twins of Evil co-headlining tour with Japanese experimental veterans, Boris and Mr. Phylzzz set to open.
The news follows Melvins recent run on the Ipecac Geek Show tour with legends and labelmates Mr. Bungle as well as Spotlights. Melvins then traveled for the band’s first European trek since 2018.
For the landmark trek, Melvins will be playing their classic, third full length album in 1991's Bullhead in its entirety, as well as essentials from their iconic catalog. Additionally, Boris will be showcasing their modern classic, revisiting last year's Heavy Rocks with a full performance of the LP.
“40 years as the Melvins!!! What better way to celebrate that unlikely milestone than by setting off on the ‘Twins of Evil Tour’ with our friends, Boris,” Buzz Osborne shared.“This will be a stone groove!”
Takeshi of Boris added, “Could anyone have predicted such an astonishing event, that Boris and the Melvins would tour the entire USA together? Since the mid-1980s, the Melvins have had an enormous influence on artists of all genres not only limited to heavy music, and have brought forth a surge of faithful followers over the years. Needless to say, Boris is just one of these many bands influenced by the mighty Melvins, and we took our name from a song title off of the 1991 album, Bullhead.”
Melvins were recently featured via Revolver as the subject some fine portrait photography from Adam Jones of TOOL. The entry highlights the band's tenure as experimental pioneers with Mike Patton stating of the band, "They are a genre unto themselves".
Tickets for the Twins of Evil Tour go on-sale June 9th at 10AM local time.
