Metallica Announce Tribute Show to Legendary Founders of Megaforce Records Jonny & Marsha Zazula

Posted by Corinne Westbrook in News on September 26, 2022

The set list will include selections from Metallica’s Megaforce-era of the early 80’s to honor the life and legacy of the metal music pioneers.

Metallica have added a very special tribute show to their 2022 tour schedule. The band will pay tribute to Jonny and Marsha Zazula, the legendary founders of Megaforce Records, who played not only a key role in launching Metallica’s career, but in launching a number of artists and putting metal on the map as a whole.

The show will take place on November 6th at the 7,000-seat Hard Rock Live at the Seminole Hard Rock Casino and Hotel in Hollywood, Florida. Tickets will go on sale Friday, September 30th, at 10 a.m. ET. Ticketing info is available HERE.

The band elaborates: “We’re excited to add one more night to the tour calendar this year with a special show at Hard Rock Live at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida, on Sunday, November 6, 2022. This night will be extra-special as we’ll be celebrating the life, legacy and achievements of Jonny and Marsha Zazula.

Jonny gave us our first break in New York, released our first albums on his Megaforce Records label, and put us out on the road for our first real tour. With Marsha by his side, Jonny was a mentor, a manager, a label head, and a father figure to us all…. we would not be where we are today without the two of them. Sadly, we recently lost both Jonny and Marsha, just a little more than a year apart.

We’ll be cooking up a special setlist for you full of songs from our days with Jonny and Marsha at Megaforce. Our main touring partner from that time, Raven, will be joining us to add to the celebration and bring back the memories. Head out to Hard Rock Live and celebrate two heavy metal pioneers and champions with us!”

The Zazula Family adds: “The Zazula family is beyond humbled and appreciative that Metallica is playing this show in our parents’ honor. The pride our parents felt toward every member of the Metallica community, from the band members to fans, was insurmountable. We can’t wait to witness this full-circle moment that will undoubtedly cause some raucous head-banging in Rock N Roll Heaven. Horns up…at Hit the Lights…Thank you.”

For this particular show, Metallica will be revisiting material from 1983 and 1984, when the Zazula family helped to kick off Metallica’s career. Fellow rock veterans Raven will also perform and celebrate the lives and legacies and Jonny and Marsha.

The band plans to donate a portion of the money they make from the show in the Zazulas’ name to MusiCares, the Recording Academy’s charitable foundation, which provides musicians in need with support for health, mental health, and living expenses. The band’s own All Within My Hands Foundation will also donate to the Feeding South Florida food bank.
