Metallica treads on taboo with second single from ’72 Seasons’

Posted by Ramon Gonzales in News on January 19, 2023

“Screaming Suicide” packs a musical wallop and addresses heady subject matter as a means of empowerment.

Serving as the first full length album since 2016’s Hardwired…To Self-Destruct, Metallica is currently prepping for an April 14th release their 12th studio album, 72 Seasons. Produced by Greg Fidelman along with James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich, the album will be released via the band’s own Blackened Recordings.

The first introduction in the single “Lux Æterna”, showcased a four-minute masterclass that reasserted Metallica’s signature unparalleled precision – underscoring just why the band have become synonymous with the gold standard in heavy music.

Now, the band have shared a second cut from 72 Seasons with the release of the incendiary, “Screaming Suicide”. The supremely executed track is a dynamic show of elite level songwriting, combined with the band’s knack for asserting compelling lyrical stanzas within their songs. The band shared of the track,

“‘Screaming Suicide’ addresses the taboo word of suicide. The intention is to communicate about the darkness we feel inside. It’s ridiculous to think we should deny that we have these thoughts. At one point or another, I believe most people have thought about it. To face it is to speak the unspoken. If it’s a human experience, we should be able to talk about it. You are not alone.”

Coupled with the release of 72 Seasons, Metallica has laid out their touring plans for the next two years, revealing their itinerary of every show booked for through 2023 and 2024. The M72 World Tour will see Metallica performing two nights in every city they touch down in with the No Repeat Weekend guarantee in place – featuring two completely different setlists and support lineups for each date. A massive undertaking that underscores how mammoth a machine Metallica continues to be.

As always, Metallica continues their philanthropic efforts with a portion of the proceeds from every ticket sold going to their charity organization, All Within My Hands. Since the founding of the project in 2017, Metallica has generated some $13 million in funds through AWMH – providing $5.9 million in grants to career and technical education programs in the US, over $2.5 million to combat food insecurity, and more than $3.2 million to disaster relief efforts worldwide.
