The hometown shows will take place December 17th and 19th at San Francisco’s Chase Center.
Metallica is celebrating multiple milestones this year. Recently, the band announced the release of their 30th anniversary remastered edition of their seminal self-titled album, better known as The Black Album.
In addition to the remastered original, Metallica unveiled an epic, wide-spanning compilation project that pools some 53 of music’s biggest and brightest all taking on their favorite songs from the Black Album with – The Blackist. The project features the likes Corey Taylor, Dave Gahan of Depeche Mode, Biffy Clyro, GHOST, Royal Blood, VolBeat, The HU, OFF!, Elton John, Mac DeMarco and many more.
2021 also marks the 40th anniversary of the band that would go onto transform the landscape of heavy music forever – as Metallica formed back in 1981. To celebrate the monumental anniversary, Lars, James, Kirk and Robert will be playing two special nights at their hometown arena, Chase Center in San Francisco. This is the same arena immortalized in the band’s 2019 S&M2 Symphony performances back in 2019.
In a statement published on the band’s website, Metallica spoke about the two-night event.
“As hard as it is to believe, the band will be turning the big 4 – 0 this October. It’s a wild thing to wrap our heads around… it feels like just yesterday that we were hitting the stage playing our first show at Radio City in Anaheim, CA, in the spring of 1982!”
“Okay, fair enough maybe that wasn’t just yesterday; so many things have happened since Lars [Ulrich] and James [Hetfield] got together in the fall of ’81… almost 2,000 live shows across seven continents, mind-blowing successes and crazy off-road adventures. It’s been a nutty ride and even though most of the time it feels like we’re just getting started, we’re excited to celebrate the past four decades with you.”
Tickets for the December 17th and 19th shows will be available exclusively to Fifth Members – Metallica’s devoted fan club. All members will have the opportunity to enter to get a reservation code which will allow access to buy tickets. The code assignment system is being implemented to give all fans a fair shot at gaining admission into the exclusive anniversary shows.
