Netflix moves up the third season of Cobra Kai to release on New Year’s Day

After waiting nearly two years for the third season to begin, fans will be able to begin streaming Cobra Kai’s new episodes a week ahead of schedule.

It has been nearly two years since fans got to close out the second season of Cobra Kai and witness the melee between Miaygi-Do and the Cobra Kai that resulted in Miguel Diaz breaking his spine and being put into critical condition.

For the third installment of the Netflix series, the fallout from the fight sees Daniel LaRusso retreating to Japan to find some solace. Cobra Kai’s Johnny Lawrence is aiming to get on the right path, while his son, and LaRusso’s pupil, Robby Keene, finds himself in juvenile hall for this role in the donnybrook.

In a surprise announcement, Netflix gave fans a holiday treat by moving the release date of the next season up by a full week. Instead of beginning as scheduled on January 8th, fans will be able to resume the story between Daniel, Johnny, and the OG Cobra Kai John Kreese, starting New Year’s Day.

Season three will feature the return of characters from The Karate Kid franchise in Chozen (Yuji Okumoto) and Kumiko (Tamlyn Tomita). It will also continue to feature Kreese and his relentless pursuit of power of the Cobra Kai.

With Netflix having confirmed that the fourth season is already in the works, there is plenty to look forward to from the ongoing saga in the Valley.

Season three of Cobra Kai begins streaming on January 1st via Netflix. Watch the trailer below.
