Transcening Obscurity is one of those labels people should 100% be keeping their eyes on. They consistently put out absolute ragers, as evident by Abyssus. This is their first album in seven years, and second overall, is thirty-three minutes of just straight being pissed off, which I mean, a great way to start the weekend am I right? They blend the grime of death metal and the fury of thrash for some “chair smashing” good times.

Battle Beast are one of those bands that know exactly who they are, and fully lean into it. If you’re a fan of grandiose, powerful, shredding guitars and pop elements, that neither take themselves too seriously, but are musically top notch, Circus of Doom is for you. Noora Louhimo’s vocals are, as always, some of the finest power metal has to offer.

A hardcore blast to get you up and stomping around the pit (or your living room, whichever). Comeback Kid’s Heavy Steps is as catchy as it is angry. Twenty years haven’t dulled the band’s raw power in the slightest, and if anything they’re at the top of their game. And for an extra bit of fun, this album also includes a guest spot by Gojira’s Joe Duplantier.

Daughters Of The Night is a strong debut from gothic outfit Nocturna, setting the stage for an exciting career for the band. The balanced vocals of Grace Darkling and Rehn Stillnight are a highlight to the album, mixing traditional operatic with modern poppy vocal stylings (as opposed to the usual clean and harsh we typically hear). Paired with the highly proficient musical composition and we have a band that is one to keep your eyes on.

German metalcore upstarts SETYØURSAILS have already delivered one of the standout albums of the year in my humble opinion, and it’s only JANUARY! Nightfall is a delectable mix of metalcore and deathcore elements, with each track packing a powerful punch standing against descrimination or offering a cathartic release for those struggling with depression. Vocalist Jules Mitch’s combination of poppy cleans and visceral harshes make this album an emotionally evocative piece everyone should be spinning this weekend.

After all the high energy and fury of the previous releases, it’s time to chill. Dubbed “doom pop”, SOM’s The Shape of Everything is an ethereal masterpiece that combines shoegaze with more traditional metal elements and enormous riffs. There’s a sense of tranquility that permeates the album from start to finish, making this a blissful, uplifting record.
