Some heavy hitters dropped this week including new full length albums from proven veterans. Get the rundown of the essentials that landed this week that should be added to your playlist.

Get ready for one hell of a weekend with some absolutely savage deathgrind, some good old Viking metal to get your pillage on, and so much more. For all of our favorite new releases, check out the official Knotfest New Flesh Playlist!

Abaddon Incarnate – The Wretched Sermon – Deathgrind

The Wretched Sermon is a full on assault of nasty riffs, skin flaying beats and intense vocals. Abbadon Incarnate brings a ton of energy and extra punch to their latest offering, with pure ferocity and savagery. A violent shove into the weekend indeed!

Amon Amarth – The Great Heathen Army – Viking Metal

This being their twelfth studio album, you know exactly what you’re getting with Amon Amarth. An ax swinging, sword fighting, pillaging, plundering good old time! The Great Heathen Army definitely adds some more intense moments, making it the heaviest of their recent albums.

Grave Bathers – Rock ‘N’ Roll Fetish – Heavy Metal

Speaking of good times, Grave Bathers’ latest album is an exercise in all things 70s. From classic heavy to doom to proto-metal to garage, this album explores the roots of heavy metal and all its offshoots thoroughly. While on the longer side, Rock ‘N” Roll Fetish is just a damn good time!

Liminal Shroud – All Virtues Ablaze – Black Metal

Liminal Shroud strikes the ultimate black metal balance on their sophomore album, All Virtues Ablaze. The right amount of melodic and aggressive, enough rawness in the production to stay true to the black metal aesthetic, without completely abandoning the modern sound and even progressive moments throughout the work. This is a lovely addition to the black metal genre that brings together all the best pieces of the puzzle.

Psycroptic – Divine Council – Technical Death Metal

Psycroptic are now on their 8th album and they have perfected the art of tech death without being so overly technical it becomes too much to process. Their songwriting, while intense, shows incredible restraint and precision use of melodic moments to carry the listener through. Overall, a stunning addition to their discography.

Soulfly – Totem (Nuclear Blast)

Wrapping up this week, we have an absolutely beastly album from tribal metal masters Soulfly. Max Cavalera has said this album shows his reignited passion for the genre, inspired by old and new acts alike. Soulfly certainly pulls out all the aggression stops on side A, while side B explores the darker, more gothic side of the band. You can read my full interview with Max HERE
