New Flesh: Releases from Soilwork, Spite, Orthodox and More!

Posted by Corinne Westbrook in News on August 19, 2022

From deathcofe to Swedish melodic metal, from doom to groove our own Cori Westbrook runs down the best new music released this week!

This week we traverse the metal verse with blood soaked doom, soaring metalcore, hard stomping hardcore, an intrumental journey and enough “break shit music” to, well, break some stuff. To listen to all our favorite new releases, be sure to follow the official Knotfest New Flesh Playlist!

Conan – Evidence Of Immortality – Doom

“Conan, what is best in life?” “To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women!” Barbaric caveman doom metal pioneers Conan are relentlessly merciless on their latest blood soaked affair, Evidence of Immortality. The musical embodiment of their namesake, they do indeed crush…and rip, and shred, and stomp. A fuzz filled doom metal extravaganza!

I Prevail – True Power – Metalcore

From heavy breakdowns to clean melodies, I Prevail know how to take you on a journey. The heartfelt lyrics and emotional musicianship create an immersive experience through the ebb and flow of the album. True Power shows that I Prevail have no shortage of talent and creativity.

Orthodox – Learning To Dissolve – Nu Metal/Groove

The nu metal revival is in full force, and I am 100% here for it. Orthodox flawlessly combines the creepiest elements of nu metal, with the unhinged technicality of fearless drumming, and the stomp of hardcore. Learning to Dissolve is ample amounts of “break shit music” and emotional intensity that will have you thrashing in the pit in 3 seconds or less.

Russian Circles – Gnosis – Post Metal

Instrumental storytellers Russian Circles know how to build tension and suspense, creating a story and building a world without the use of words. They build it like a wall of sound only to break it down and unleash a wave that overtakes the listener. Masters of their craft, Russian Circles bring so much emotion to their music it is hard not to get completely lost.

Spite – Dedication To Flesh – Deathcore

Is it even possible for me to write a weekly roundup without at least one deathcore release? NOPE! California deathcore heavy hitters Spite bring together the fire and fury of the hardcore scene and the pure viseral rage of deathcore for a diverging take on the highly popular genre. Dedication to Flesh is a well rounded album that will keep you engaged throughout and can bring fans together from multiple metal factions.

Soilwork – Övergivenheten – Melodic Death Metal

This album is both the perfect summary of a long career and the promise of so much more to come. The album is a journey with an astounding amount of variety, with each song serving as a microcosm of the album as a whole. Soilwork masterfully created an odyssey with twists, turns, powerful vocals, musical surprises and the perfect pace that will carry you through the over hour length without you realizing how much time has truly passed. We listen to the album in full on First Listen with Bjorn Strid.
