Watch the guys blow their video budget on a killer Katana sword in the Whitey McConnaughy-directed clip for the album’s title track.
Portland’s purveyors of the riff, Red Fang, have announced their first full length studio album in five years will their forthcoming Relapse Records release, Arrows.
Connecting with longtime creative collaborator Chris Funk, the collection of 13-tracks serves as the band’s fifth studio release and the the follow up to their critically-lauded 2016 LP, Only Ghosts.
“It was so gratifying to put these songs on tape with Funk!” says guitarist/vocalist Bryan Giles. “It felt very comfortable with a loose schedule. We didn’t take it one song at a time, but added guitars, vocals, or general weirdness whenever an idea sprang to mind. We busted out a hurdy gurdy! It was that fun.”
“WOW! We are SO EXCITED to finally release this record to the world! We finished the album way back in December 2019 and then… something happened that is not worth discussing…,” chimed in vocalist/bassist Aaron Beam. “Making this record felt totally loose and easy. It felt like we were just doing whatever the fuck we wanted, and not overthinking anything. That attitude reminded me a lot of what it felt like to make Murder the Mountains. The result doesn’t sound anything like MTM, but it has more of that vibe.”
To officially kick off the album release festivities, the band has again enlisted auteur specialist Whitey McConnaughy for the first visual from the album in the clip for the title track, “Arrows”. Showcasing the band’s brand of tongue in cheek humor, the video features the guys blowing their video budget on a Katana sword, then gloriously slicing the shit out of everything with it in super stylistic slow motion. Interspersed with performance footage of the band doing a different kind of shredding, “Arrows” is the kind of heavy drinking, loud volume good time just about everyone could use right now.
‘Arrows’ arrives June 4th via Relapse Records. Pre-orders for the album are available – HERE. The album comes in various formats including a limited edition Red Fang x Psycho Las Vegas Texas Hold’em themed box set in the Fortune Hunter Gamblers Pack. The poker-themed package includes branded casino-quality playing cards, dice, collector’s coin, custom boxing, and a card of authenticity, featuring custom artwork by Ian Colazzo – in addition to the LP and a t-shirt.
