Featuring current and former members of Amenra, Neurosis and Sepultura, the band have shared the terrifying first single, “The Acres/The Ache”.
Back in 2017, Amenra guitarist Mathieu J. Vandekerckhove linked with Neurosis veteran vocalist/guitarist Scott Kelly to begin the infancy of Absent in Body.
Shortly thereafter, Amenra frontman Colin H. Van Eeckhout proved to be a creative ally and was brought in on vocals and bass to better develop the cinematic doom project. The band would complete their assembly of artistic cohorts with the addition of formative Sepultura drummer Iggor Cavalera recruited to provide the outfit’s thunderous backbeat.
The band has now unveiled their devastating brand of immersive doom with the announcement of their debut album, Plague God. Coupled with the news of the March 25th Relapse Records release, the band has also offered an initial glimpse into their sonic obliteration with the introduction of “The Acres/The Ache”.
The more than eight minute composition is a crushing, corrosive exercise in sonic extremity that underscores the comprehensive vision of pure prowess of the contributing luminaries. In short, the song shifts from harmonious to hellacious in what feels like a continuous descent. The track is purely terrifying and yet undeniable in it’s technicality and execution.
Calavera commented on how the direction of the material is indicative of the climate in which it was created. “It feels great to collaborate with such forward-thinking minds like Colin, Mathieu, and Scott on AIB. The music is dense and slowly brutal, very similar to the times we are living.”
Mathieu Vandekerckhove added, “We had not imposed any limitations or boundaries on ourselves to create this music. Everything happened without any compromise, we gathered and let inspiration run freely. It is the beauty and the strength of this album.”
Absent in Body arrive with Plague God on Relapse Records on March 25, 2022 on LP/CD/CS/Digital. Pre-orders currently available – HERE.
