Shane Embury of Napalm Death and Kevin Sharp of Brutal Truth tap into their love of punk with their latest forthcoming full length.
Savage punk supergroup Venomous Concept, formed by Napalm Death’s Shane Embury and former Brutal Truth vocalist Kevin Sharp, have announced their 5th studio album The Good Ship Lollipop, due out February 24th via Decibel Records. Accompanying the announcement, Venomous Concept revealed the anthemic and highly chantable new single “Voices”. The track finds Embury and Sharp joined by Napalm Death’s touring guitarist John Cooke and former Cancer drummer Carl Stokes.
“Voices” is a caustic, metallic punk song with a solid amount of groove and swagger. The vocals are gritty and snarling. The track seems made with the live audience in mind with a good bit of “hey, hey, hey’s” to get your fists in the air.
Engineered by Piers Mortimer (Deep Purple) and produced by long-time friend and soundman Simon Efemey (Paradise Lost, Amorphis), the record was recorded during the height of the pandemic in 2020. “It was an amazing fun and creative experience, recording while there were COVID restrictions,” Embury elaborates on the making of the record. “We seem to only now dimly recall the whole process but this record lives it and breathes it…When the pandemic hit, we decided we needed to make an album that didn’t fit. We all loved so much other kind of punk and rock, so why not explore that which is, in essence, closer to our hearts? To do the same album over and over again would be boring.”
The Good Ship Lollipop will receive an exclusive North American vinyl and cassette release through Decibel Records, which is available for pre-order now HERE.
