The series begins one year after Dt. Clarice Starling takes down Hannibal Lecter and will feature a modernized take on the serial killer drama.

The highly-anticipated sequel series to the Silence of the Lambs saga in Clarice, shared a brand new trailer ahead of its CBS premiere next month.

The series stars Rebecca Breeds as the iconic FBI detective Clarice Starling and resume the storyline one year after she has taken down the notorious Hannibal Lecter.

However, the series will not be allowed to make any reference to Hannibal Lecter or to any of the previous plot lines from the Silence of the Lambs feature film due to legal issues. The rights to author Thomas Harris’ characters are divided between two companies. In fact, the NBC series Hannibal was faced with a similar situation when penning their scripts, in that they could focus only on Lecter but make no mention of Clarice Starling for their series.

As for the CBS series, executive producer Alex Kurtzman is aiming to change the nostalgia of the plot line and introduce a more modernized version of the narrative with a first season of Clarice that includes, “a more expanded, nuanced, complicated, and topical version of a serial killer.”

As for the trailer, the first look offers a glimpse into what seems to be a reclusive Agent Starling, reluctant to get back to work and still reeling from the emotional fallout of taking down a true personification of evil. With some encouragement, Detective Starling is back with a renewed sense of purpose and taking down heinous criminals while dealing with the bureaucratic pitfalls of working in Washington D.C.

Clarice premieres on CBS starting February 11th and stars the likes of are Kal Penn (House, Sunnyside), Nick Sandow (Orange Is the New Black), Michael Cudlitz (The Walking Dead), and Devyn Tyler (Watchmen, The Purge).
