The 14th edition of the So What?! Music Festival is officially in the books. The three-day Texas-sized takeover roped in some 150 artists, spanning a sprawling footprint that included three main stages daily, along with three supporting stages of encompassing the very best of punk, hardcore, metal, hip hop and the nuanced mesh in between.
Among the standouts on the weekend included massive sets from the likes of Waka Flocka Flame, Underoath, Knocked Loose, The Devil Wears Prada, The Ghost Inside, Terror, Comeback Kid and so many more. Among the prospects that delivered on the hype, bands like Dropout Kings, moodring, UnityTX and more made good on the robust health of the new generation of heavy music.
“This year’s So What?! line up is us basically saying, who cares about a genre!” explained festival founder Mike Ziemer. “Everything is blending together more and more. There are so many hip-hop artists collaborating with rock artists. Travis Barker is working with like every type of artist. This festival brings together all the hype and energy of what’s current and what’s exciting to the fan that misses Warped Tour but also attends Rolling Loud.”
Melding genres and bringing together crowds from different walks all under the same banner, So What Music Festival charged ahead into the modern era of music where division is less a thing and people consume music of all types - so long as it proves effective in igniting a sense of energy - for three days in Arlington, TX - the environment is was just that. Electric.
