DECEMBER BRINGS ANOTHER MONTH OF METAL-THEMED BURGERS & COFFEE, PLUS SOME VEGAN MEXICAN FOOD. AND NO LIST IS COMPLETE WITHOUT SOME PIZZA.
Knotfest has scoured the country to find some of the best metal-themed restaurants, bars, and cafes. Fierce Eats spotlights a monthly menu highlighting some hard-core menu items that will definitely have fans drooling.
SIZZLE PIE - BRIEHEMOTH
Founders Matt Jacobson and Mikey McKennedy came together and envisioned an independent pizzeria that would not only serve up the perfect slice, but would also be host to a never-ending pizza party where everyone is welcome. In 2011, they opened up their first location on East Burnside Street in Portland, Oregon. Since then, they have spread their pizza party attitude throughout Portland, as well as Eugene, and Reno. Consistently ranked in the top 10 independent pizzerias in the country, they serve East Coast style slices and pies with a healthy blend of West Coast flair by turning the freshest, highest-quality ingredients into tried and true classics with bold new pizza visions in a variety of meat, veggie, and vegan options.
The Briehemoth pie is topped with apple slices, brie dollops, caramelized onion, fresh arugula and balsamic glaze.
Kuma's Corner - Repentance
Kuma’s started in 2005 with its flagship location at the corner of Belmont and Francisco avenues in Chicago’s Avondale neighborhood. From their origins as a corner bar with solid American bistro fare, they’ve grown to five locations that offer the finest burgers available on this planet or any other.
Kuma's Corner December Burger of the Month takes their 10oz Kuma’s Patty tops it with jalapeños, chipotle mayo, chorizo & bacon cream cheese spread, Nashville hot sauce, pulled pork, & cilantro leaves.
Terror Taco - Smothered Birria Burrito on Whole Wheat
Terror Taco was started by two brothers that grew up in the 80's, who watched too many horror films, played in hardcore and metal bands together, and ate the best Mexican food the Southwest and West Coast had to offer. They created this brand and space to make the food they wanted to eat, to listen to death metal, and to give anyone willing to walk through our doors a completely different experience. Terror Taco offers an all vegan menu of classic Mexican food including tacos, burritos and nachos.
The smothered birria burrito includes spicy birria seitan, cilantro rice, fajita veggies, red cabbage, cilantro and sour cream wrapped in a oversized and grilled flour tortilla.
BLACK FORGE COFFEE - HEXMAS ROAST
This heavy metal woman-owned business hails from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Ashley Corts began building the Black Forge Coffee brand in 2015 with a mission to provide a creative destination focused on supporting her communities in both Allentown and McKees Rocks, coffee culture and our music and art scene. She offers a safe space for artists of all types to share their craft. Black Forge sources their beans from small, privately-owned farms, their blends change frequently, with the exception of our regular offerings. Not only do they consciously source their beans, they roast in small, 10 lb. batches, ensuring that each bean is up to their standards.
The Hexmas Roast is a Ethiopian Queen City and Nicaraquan Jinotega blend. The blend has notes of dark chocolate and berry.
Grill Em' All - The Mayhem aka Malakai Black
The Los Angeles burger institution is back this month with another fan favorite. Chef Ryan Harkins and former professional wrestler Matt Chernus started serving gourmet burgers out of a food truck back in 2009. Before opening up their heavy metal themed brick and mortar they won the first ‘Great Food Truck Race’ and were featured on the ‘Best Thing I Ever Ate.’ Their popularity led them to lay their food trucks to rest and serve burgers like the featured Behemoth out of their very own Valhalla.
Grill Em' All's December burger of the month includes house made Hungarian goulash, garlic Swiss spaetzle, parsley, a half pound burger patty in a black bun.
