Fierce Bites Menu: April 2023

We here at Fierce Bites scour the country in search of some of the best metal and horror themed restaurants, bars, and cafes. We then create a monthly menu highlighting some of the hard-core menu items that we found along the way. We hope you enjoy April's Fierce Bites Menu.

Every month we try our hardest to find you great burgers, pizza, drinks, tacos for both the meat-eater and Vegan crowd; and this month is no different. April showers bring a heavy dose of monthly burgers and pizza. This month's menu features some awesome food from our friends at Sizzle Pie, Grill Em All, The 4th Horseman, Kuma’s Corner, Terror Tacos and Zombie Burger + Drink Lab. We hope you dig this month’s menu as much as we do. Cheers!

SIZZLE PIE – TAJÍN CLASICO

Founders Matt Jacobson and Mikey McKennedy came together and envisioned an independent pizzeria that would serve up the perfect slice. In 2011, they opened up their first location on East Burnside Street in Portland, Oregon. Since then, they have consistently ranked in the top 10 independent pizzerias in the country. They serve East Coast style slices and pies with a healthy blend of West Coast flair by turning the freshest, highest-quality ingredients into tried and true classics with bold new pizza visions in a variety of meat, veggie, and vegan options. Sizzle Pie has started this awesome program where they partner with a different charity every month. When ordering online or through their app, opt for the ‘Sauce Heart’ to support the charity. This month’s sauce hearts support Grow Portland; they support schools and communities by facilitating hands-on garden experiences that foster connections to food, nature and each other.

This month's specialty pizza is the sweet and spicy Tajín Clasico. The pizza uses an olive oil base, signature cheese blend, pineapple, red onion, fresh mozzarella, green onion and a dusting of Tajín.

GRILL ‘EM ALL – IRON HORSE aka MANCE WARNER

Grill Em’ All just celebrated their 10 year anniversary of their Valhalla at the beginning of the year. This Los Angeles burger institution was started by Chef Ryan Harkins and former professional wrestler Matt Chernus. They served gourmet burgers out of a food truck back in 2009. Before opening up their heavy metal themed brick and mortar they won the first ‘Great Food Truck Race’ and were featured on the ‘Best Thing I Ever Ate.’ Their popularity led them to lay their food trucks to rest and serve burgers and fries out their restaurant in Alhambra, California.

In keeping with the Wrestlemania theme and the fact the Grill Em' All is rooted in wrestling, this month's burger is named after the "Southern Psycho" Mance Warner. This monster burger takes a 1/2 lb burger patty engulfs it in roast beef, creamy horseradish sauce, Grill Em' All sauce and beer cheese.

THE 4TH HORSEMAN - THE CRONUS

The 4th Horseman was started by Ryan Hughes and Martin Svab formerly of the craft brewery Phantom Carriage, Chef Adam Schmalz and Dark Art Emporium owner Jeremy Schott in the heart of Downtown Long Beach, CA back in 2018. The apocalyptic pizzeria is an ode to horror films and all things macabre. The decor includes shrunken heads, vintage monster posters and probably the creepiest thing of all... old TV sets blasting static (thanks Poltergeist). You can't have a horror themed pizzeria without the appropriately named pizzas. Some of the names include 'Rosemary's Baby,' 'Pastrami Dearest' and 'Momento More.'

The Cronus is a richly decadent Greek inspired pizza. This beautiful pie is topped with tomato sauce, mozzarella, spinach, Kalamata olives, artichokes, red onions, feta cheese and a heavy drizzle of house-made Greek dressing.

KUMA’S CORNER – EYEHATEGOD

Kuma’s started in 2005 with its flagship location at the corner of Belmont and Francisco avenues in Chicago’s Avondale neighborhood. From their origins as a corner bar with solid American bistro fare, they’ve grown to five locations that offer the finest burgers available on this planet or any other.

Our Fierce Bites faithful know Kuma’s Corner comes correct with a crazy burger and a stacked Mac N Cheese of the month. And with every BOTM purchase, $1 gets donated to a charity. This month’s burger benefits Taskforce, a multi-service organization committed to LGBTQ+, youth and people of color in Chicago with many different programs.

In honor of the sludge-metal band EYEHATEGOD playing Chicago's Empty Bottle this month, Kuma's Corner tops their signature 10oz patty with pecan-hazelnut crumble, bacon wrapped dates, bleu cheese, Düsseldorf mustard and scallions.

TERROR TACOS – BIRRIA TACOS

Terror Taco was started by two brothers that grew up in the 80’s, who watched too many horror films, played in hardcore and metal bands together, and ate the best Mexican food the Southwest and West Coast had to offer. They created this brand and space to make the food they wanted to eat, to listen to death metal, and to give anyone willing to walk through our doors a completely different experience. Terror Taco offers an all vegan menu of classic Mexican food including tacos, burritos and nachos. VEGAN. METAL. HORROR. TACOS.

We had to feature the birria tacos in honor of Terror Tacos being voted one of the best 100 restaurants in St. Louis for the 2nd straight year. The award winning vegan tacos take two corn tortillas and fill them with house-made seitan marinated in vegan consumé and topped with sour cream (v), fresh red cabbage, diced onions, cilantro and grilled jalapeños.

ZOMBIE BURGER + DRINK LAB – RUN RABBIT RUN + R.I.PEEPS

Zombie Burger + Drink Lab are famous for their inventive flavor combos and once you look through their menu you’ll see just how inventive they can get. The GOREmet eatery evokes a classic roadside burger stand but in a ‘post apocalyptic chic’ setting. They proudly pair fresh ingredients with expert preparation. Zombie Burger features their very own custom three-cut beef burger blend, specially-crafted buns, and hand-mixed shakes.

Run Rabbit Run is stacked high with gruyere cheese, carved ham, crispy potato nest, fried egg, hollandaise sauce and fried parsley. The R.I.PEEP shake is blended with vanilla ice cream, marshmallow, pulverized Cadbury eggs, whipped cream, flamed Peeps and of course you have the option to booze it up with Dr. McGillicuddy's Vanilla Liqueur.
