Brazilian-born, Harlem-bred, SOSMula has spent the better part of the last decade asserting his prowess as has one half of the trap metal juggernaut City Morgue. Amid the meteoric success and pervasive reach of the genre-smashing duo, Mula's menacing cadence on the microphone, combined with a stalking dominance onstage has served to substantiate his stock as one of the most disruptive forces among mosh heavy trap.
Establishing his rank as a solo artist, 2024 would see Mula break out from City Morgue, debuting the potent, provocative, Sleez Religion. Selective with the guest features on the LP, the mesh of G Herbo and Kim Dracula underscored the opposite ends of the spectrum where Mula thrives and emphasized an effective meld of aggressive art that resonated as equal parts swag and menacing slasher.
Cultivating a streetwise brand of hard-hitting horror, the sound and signature have become SOSMula's calling card. Swapping supernatural fright for bass-heavy dread, the rap music renegade conjures a different kind of terror; one that sources the often gruesome reality that can only come from his first-hand experience in the trenches.
Leaning into the persona of trap metal's Jason Voorhees, SOSMula's latest full length, KAMP KRYSTL LAKE is the completion of firebrand's full character arc. Weaponizing grizzly bars and bombastic low end, Mula's wordplay and fiery energy make for an effective combination of sources equal parts grindhouse and trap house.
Better illuminating the roadmap of his meld of sonic mayhem, Mula locked in for a track-by-track breakdown of his horror-inspired full length and his pivotal first official solo label release backed by Ricky Hil’s Limosa Nostra imprint. Kindred to the climatic slasher movie kill scene, KAMP KRYSTL LAKE finds Mula finally revealing his face as the madman in the mask.
"KILLA SEASON"
SOSMula - On my SLEEZ RELIGION album I had a lot of skits and I was just picking up where I left off on SLEEZ RELIGION - cause it ended in MAGONIA and basically my version of KAMP KRYSTL LAKE is in MAGONIA. SLEEZ RELIGION was supposed to have a SLEEZ 2.0 - you could say that KAMP KYRSTL LAKE would be that. It’s a whole new world. I just kind of picked it up from there. The fans will understand the whole world that both albums are in.
"MR. ANDERSON"
SOSMula - We were watching the Matrix in the studio when we were making it and I had the Matrix bar in there too - the portal bar, and I just named it “MR. ANDERSON.”
"KATHEDRAL" ft. Ricky Hil
SOSMula - It’s a trap metal sound - pushing the sound to a different level. That’s a Thraxx beat, my Main producer who I started with basically created our sound. I just started working back with him, I haven’t worked with him in years. We tapped back in and he started sending me the sound and it just sounded so evolved and crazy, and I know that's what the fans wanted, so I wanted to give them that and show them I could still do that on a different level. Also, that's the first time a lot of these fans are gonna hear Ricky Hil’s screaming voice and that’s gonna be super new for both fan bases.
"AARON HERNANDEZ"
SOSMula - I was watching the documentary in the studio on silent. When I record, I like to watch movies, documentaries, or video gameplay, like Dark Souls video gameplay or Elden ring. I just had the Aaron Hernandez documentary on - I had just gone down this rabbit hole and had watched like 34 documentaries and that's what I had on and I just named the song this too.
"BLOOD OF MY BLOOD"
SOSMula - Thraxx produced song too - when he sent me that sh*t, I had been listening to a lot of Black Sabbath lately and I just felt that type of vibe. The sound evolved to the next level, the beat is just crazy. I did so many things on that beat: I was singing, rapping, screaming, that beat just has so many pockets. It's one of my favorite songs on the album for sure.
"GOD'S COUNTRY"
SOSMula - I made this in Telluride Colorado in this big ass cabin house with Lex Luger and Ricky and it was a vibe. He loaded the beat up, and I just punched it in and I think it was just being in nature that made me make that type of song. It's such a new sound from me that no one’s heard - I’ve been making a lot of music with that sound. Fans are gonna hear a lot of the sound in the future - it probably is my favorite song on the whole project because it’s something that I’ve never done before
"TRENCH BRAZY"
SOSMula - This one is a Lex Luger Beat / RZA equinox beat, it’s just some hard sh*t. It really is a Philly drill beat. And when he sent me the beat I was like ‘this is fire but what can I do different to it?’ He sent me the first half of the beat - I just recorded a long verse and couldn’t think of a hook and then my engineer, JP, had an idea to listen to some other beats and we could connect the song, we just had to find a super turnt up beat that’s the opposite of the first one and that’s what we did. We listened to some other beats and we found one that connected and it sounded crazy.
"HOUSE IN THE TREES"
SOSMula - This is just like super trap, hard trap shit. I made that around the time i made the SLEEZ RELIGION album and that was probably gonna be on the deluxe but I never dropped a deluxe and that’s one of the standout crazy songs from that era and it’s one of my favorite songs - super trapped out horror banger that the fans would appreciate.
"PROJECT BABY"
SOSMula - This is my version of being from the projects and from NY, Thraxx sent me the beat. I thought about a tour song, and I was like ‘I’m about to make a song just for that to have a crazy song to perform,’ trynna make like stadium music.
"SPIRAL"
SOSMula - It’s actually kind of old too - it’s just a trap, horror banger.
"PREACHER"
SOSMula - Super turnt up trap shit - super barred up song. Super savage type of song, one of my top five on the project as far as bangers.
"MERCEDEZ BRAZY"
SOSMula - Sad boy song, I think everyone can relate to it. Everyone’s been through toxic relationships and bad breakups. My engineer made the beat in front of me in the studio and that’s what came to me.
"BLAKK BOOTZ"
SOSMula - I listen to a lot of Crystal Castles and I really love them and when I heard the beat I thought about them. I wanted to have that vibe in my own way for the album. That was my version of that type of music.
"OUTLAW SQUAD"
SOSMula - Super 2012 inspired by Chief Keef that whole era - like a Young Chop type of beat. Found this new producer, 6worthy from Germany, I found him on YouTube and hit him up and I’ve been working with him like crazy. I got a lot of songs coming out with him. It’s one of my favorite eras of music - Chief Keef is one of my favorite rappers, that whole era when he came out had a big impact on me at that time. I wanted to make some sh*t I used to listen to. Create some new sounds, new flows, treat my voice like an instrument and just playing with my voice in different pockets.
"CIRCUS ROACHES"
SOSMula - I don’t know how to explain this one - it’s kind of like an interview cause I’m talking in between the songs. I don’t know what type of bag I was in when I made that. I just wasn’t in a good head space when I made it and that's just how I was feeling. It's a crazy song, it’s fire, it’s definitely some new sh*t, some evolved rock, grunge and dark wave that’ve been doing - trying new shit.
