Pittsburgh's own 156/Silence have announced the pending release of their fourth full length studio album titled, People Watching. The news of album follows the band's recent confirmation on the mammoth North American tour with Signs of the Swarm, Ov Sulfur and Cane Hill set to kick off next month.
People Watching, is due out September 13th via SharpTone Records and finds the band working with Jonathan Dolese, whose production resume includes the likes of D.R.U.G.S and Attack, Attack! to list a few.
Paired with the news of the forthcoming album, 156/Silence has released a bombastic new single in the arrival of "Better Written Villain". Speaking of the single and how it is indicative of the album as a whole, the band detailed how this track saw many versions until they finally found what they were hoping to achieve.
“'Better Written Villain' is a song that underwent heavy rewrites in the studio but we’re incredibly happy with how it turned out. This song takes you on a journey through almost every element of our sound and I believe it’s a good representation of what you can expect from the album as a whole. The chorus as well as the ending went through a bunch of revisions because Jimmy and I (this is jack) couldn’t agree on a melody until the very last second. But I think that’s what makes it one of if not my favorite songs on the record. A song that thematically was inspired by from George Orwell’s 'Animal Farm'. Specifically Napoleon.”
As for People Watching, the album follows their 2022 full length Narrative and further cements their fruitful partnership with SharpTone Records. The band also spoke about the personal reward of seeing this fourth full length to completion and how they agree, this is definitive in their catalog.
"People Watching is the culmination of the last 9 years of 156. From the very beginning of the band we set the goal to push ourselves and make sure no two records we put out ever sound the same. I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve created, this album has been a long time coming. Welcome to the new era of 156."
