Chad Gilbert of New Found Glory Has Passed Away

- By Ramon Gonzales -->

The veteran musician and accomplished producer was just 45 years old.

Guitarist for New Found Glory and prolific producer Chad Gilbert has passed away following a lengthy battle with a rare form of cancer. In 2021, Gilbert underwent emergency surgery to remove a pheochromocytoma—a rare neuroendocrine tumor on his adrenal gland. Following extensive treatment, Gilbert's surgery proved successful, getting the all clear from his oncologist in 2022.

Last month, Gilbert shared that he had been experiencing intense back pain while on tour. Returning home to get an MRI, doctors discovered a new Pheochromocytoma tumor in the 12th vertebrae of Gilbert's spine. Despite the seriousness of the update, Gilbert remained positive about the prognosis and plan of action in terms of treatment.

In a post shared to New Found Glory's social media accounts, the band confirmed that on the morning of September 20th, Gilbert passed away in his sleep. The band issued the following statement.

“Chad’s guitar playing, songwriting, humor, and relentless drive helped shape New Found Glory for nearly three decades. Through more than a dozen albums, endless tours around the world, and more accolades than we ever could have imagined, Chad challenged all of us to grow as musicians, performers, and human beings. While we are devastated to lose him, we are so grateful for the incredible life he lived, the memories we shared, and the brotherhood we had. His influence will always be part of New Found Glory and his spirit will be felt on every stage we stand on, with every note we play.”

In addition to his influential tenure with New Found Glory, Gilbert was also an integral part of Shai Hulud, fronting the band for a stretch in the late 90's and most recently for the band's 2012-1013 touring run.

As an accomplished producer, Gilbert's comprehensive list of credits include a handful of classic records, including Terror's Keepers of the Faith, A Day to Remember's Homesick and Big Kiss Goodnight from Trapped Under Ice to list just a few. Gilbert's collaborative resume spans the likes of Lisa Loeb, Say Anything and Fall Out Boy.

The statement published from New Found Glory spoke to Gilbert's most cherished wins in his storied career. " He was a legendary musician, but his favorite accomplishment was being a husband and father. His biggest dreams came true. He is survived by his wife, Lisa, his daughter, Lily, his mother, Jackie, and his brother, Brian."

Sending condolences to the entire Gilbert family. May he rest in peace.
