The assembly of extreme music all-stars in Death To All have unveiled footage, previously unreleased that documents the band's ceebrated 2022 performance at Graspop Metal Meeting - offering testament to the continued, enduring legacy of Death architect, Chuck Schuldiner.
Consisting of guitarist Max Phelps (Exist, Cynic), drummer Gene Hoglan (Dark Angel, Testament, Dethklok), bassist Steve DiGiorgio (Testament, Sadus) and Bobby Koelble (DEATH), the band are set to begin their Scream of Perseverance Tour next month along with special guests, Cryptopsy.
Serving as an ever-evolving, wholly reverent tribute to the life, legacy and music of Schuldiner, the tour will offer an ambitious, comprehensive showcase of the Death catalog. On the latest run, Death to All will perform three sets on select dates throughout the tour, including Scream Bloody Gore in its entirety plus old school DEATH classics from Leprosy and Spiritual Healing.
Death to All will also perform The Sound Of Perseverance in its entirety, plus new school DEATH classics from Human, Individual Thought Patterns and Symbolic. Lastly, From First To Last will feature the Greatest classics from every DEATH album overall.
Ahead of the retrospective celebration of all things Death, Death to All have shared a preview of the mastery to come with the reveal of previously unreleased footage from the band's memorable showing at Graspop 2022. The clip features the live performance of one of Death's most enduring selections, "Crystal Mountain" from the 1995 classic, Symbolic.
Illuminating the history behind the definitive track drummer Gene Hoglan recounted the story of how the song actually came to be. "To the best of my recollection, Chuck wrote “Crystal Mountain” about his neighbors.
Chuck was always a chill neighbor, and his neighborhood in the Symbolic-era consisted of just a few homes, all spread out with a nice little acreage between each, with no fences. However, some new folks happened to move in next door. Very puritanical, extremely evangelistic and horribly judgmental, and they rather immediately took umbrage with Chuck. Perhaps due to his long hair, or the metal we’d be cranking from his garage as we rehearsed, who knows?
So they decided to build an enormous fence on the property line. A gigantic eyesore, thoroughly blockading the view down the very lush and pretty street where Chuck lived. Only... they had misread their property line blueprints and mistakenly built this fence about a foot over the property line, therefore directly on Chuck’s property, with just enough room to give Chuck the working space to paint the most hilariously blasphemous and atrocious stuff on the side of the fence which faced their house. But after all, the fence was on his property, therefore becoming his fence, right? And, if only those neighbors were not jerks…
Man, did they ever lose it. God, we were dying."
