San Fernando Valley collective Upon Stone have quickly asserted their position as one of the most promising prospects in the space of heavy music. The band's potent meld of classic Scandinavian influence combined with modern execution has resonated firmly with fans spanning generations.
Earlier this summer, the band made their introduction on Century Media Records with the unveiling of the powerful single, "Onyx Through the Heart". The track's pummeling cadence and relentless riffs underscored just why the band has quickly become so championed.
Now, the band have delivered a second ferocious single in "Dead Mother Moon" to introduce their debut full length album of the same name. The 9-track effort was produced by Taylor Young (Twitching Tongues, Nails) at The famed Pit i the San Fernando Valley. The album will land January 19th via Century Media Records and showcases one of the most exciting new contributors in melodic death metal.
Bassist/vocalist Xavier Wahlberg further elaborated on the thematic direction of the track and how the single is indicative of the project as a whole.
“A mortal human’s search for meaning through the practice of ritual and magic. Discovering the power and reverence of the nocturnal spirit world waiting to be gained for those willing to devote themselves to it completely. The Dead Mother Moon represents a manifestation/personification of these elements. A deity/goddess ruling over it all.”
Dead Mother Moon, in addition to the production personnel, features a guest assist from Brian Fair of Shadows Fall as well as cover artwork from renowned German artist Andreas Marschall (Dimmu Borgir, In Flames).
Speaking on the fan-first perspective of the record, drummer Wyatt Bentley shared of the band's creative intentions, “We made a record that we wanted to hear. If I found this record on import at a record store, this would be my favorite new band. I think it’s a good sign when you’re writing the stuff you would have loved to hear when you’re first getting into a sound."
Dead Mother Moon arrives January 19th via Century Media Records.
