Veteran songwriter and stalwart Irish folk punk Dave King is currently recovering from a serious brain hemorrhage he sustained earlier this year. Having to undergo surgery not once, but twice, King was in a coma for two weeks as a result from the trauma. The recent update comes from King's wife and bandmate, Bridget Regan.
The news lands as the band typically celebrates with an annual St. Patrick's Day show. Early last month, Flogging Molly was forced to cancel their Road to Rebellion tour which was set to lead into their annual St. Patrick's Day party. The news landed less than two weeks before the band was due to embark on their annual Salty Dog Cruise. While the boat still set sail without a hiccup. Flogging Molly was sorely missed as fans were still uncertain as to King's status.
Regan's statement clarified the timeline of events that ultimately sidelined King, detailing that the vocalist/guitarist sustained a brain hemorrhage on January 24th and had two surgeries as a result. A month later, King would have yet another surgery and would ensure a two-week long coma in that time.
In the same statement, Regan would go onto thank King's doctors and the hospital staff that took care of him. She explained that she wanted to wait until King was out of the woods before sharing his status with the band's followers and supporters. You can read the full statement from Regan below.
