French powerhouse Gojira took home the hardware in the Best Metal Performance category at the 2025 Grammy Awards.
The band became the sensation of the summer Olympics, earning a nod for their epic rendition of “Mea Culpa (Ah! Ça ira!)”.
In line with France's identity of upheaval and rebellion, “Mea Culpa (Ah! Ça ira!)” is an anthemic French Revolution entry, weaponized as only Gojira could. Bolstered by some nearly 300 classical musicians and steered by the vision of composer Victor le Manse, the band's gargantuan showing was punctuated by the vocal prowess of French-Swiss mezzo-soprano Marina Viotti.
Fortified by a wall of flames, Gojira blared from the windows of Paris’ iconic Concierge, making metal music history and becoming one of the most definitive moments of the 2024 Summer Olympic Games and the first ever metal band to be featured as part of the ceremony.
As a result, the band took home the gold at the 67th Annual Grammys beating out a field that included a pair of legends with Metallica being nominated for “Screaming Suicide” and Judas Priest scoring for "Crown of Horns" from their Invincible Shield album which coincided with the band's 50th anniversary as well as skyrocketing sensations in Spiritbox for their showing with "Cellar Door" and Knocked Loose's 2024 anthem with Poppy, "Suffocate".
