Following the acclaim of the 2022 clinic in avant-garde extremity in Spirit of Ecstasy, New York trio Imperial Triumphant have confirmed their next full length studio effort, Goldstar, will arrive in 2025.
Thus far, the band has previewed their next era with the consuming first single, "Eye of Mars" and have now doubled down with the debut of the equally dominant, "Hotel Sphinx". A masterful combination of atmospheric black metal and dazzling, dynamic free jazz, Imperial Triumphant continue to challenge the confines of extreme music with a unique elegance that differentiates the band from their contemporaries.
The latest single has been paired with a brand new visual directed by the band's own Steve Blanco. Combining performance footage with stylized, cinematic imagery of the band, the clip is as dazzling companion to the engrossing soundtrack.
The band spoke in veiled, cryptic messaging about the direction of the latest album preview. "The 'Entertainer extraordinaire' leads a gullible audience through the sinister halls of the 'Hotel Sphinx'. Behind the lights, cameras, and endless action lies a disturbing undercurrent—where power is fed by the innocence of youth. The lines between entertainment, initiation, and exploitation blur as a conspiracy of silence reigns in the 'Illuminated Valley of the Kings', where political celebrity celebrates death. Rites of passage too dark to speak, promising false salvation in a world where the show never ends."
The announcement of Goldstar follows Imperial Triumphant's ambitious series of cover renditions of classic entries from a diverse field of influences. Submitting covers of essentials from Metallica, RUSH, Dizzy Gillespie and Radiohead, the series underscored the band's vast musical scope and their disregard for expectation.
