Tenured Japanese extreme metal practitioners SIGH have confirmed the September 4th arrival of their new full length, Goh-ka. The album arrives via Peaceville and continues mastermind Mirai Kawashima's legacy as one of extreme music's most innovative, pioneering forces.
Described as the distillation of musical elements of Celtic Frost, Voivod, Black Sabbath, along with classic horror imagery and time-honored Japanese tradition and culture, Goh-ka is already shaping up to be yet another classic in the cannon of Kawashima and SIGH.
Among the thematic drivers of the latest epic, Kuso-zu is a series of Buddhist illustrations depicting the nine stages of a human body's decomposition after death. Along with the accompanying poem Kuso-shi, paired with the illustrations, the greater themes of humanity's transience and our inevitable end resonate throughout the album.
With SIGH's remaining core personnel in Dr Mikannibal and guitarist Nozomu Wakai, the band is rounded out by an elite ensemble cast including Frédéric Leclercq of Kreator on bass and Mike Heller behind the drum kit. Additionally, Goh-ka boasts the a guest appearance from Mikael Åkerfeldt of Opeth on the track, "Unputenpu."
Coupled with the arrival of the new album, SIGH is set to take on a run of live dates, including specialized "old school" sets as a trio in Europe, as a well as a rare West Coast domestic U.S. run following the band's appearance at Fire In the Mountains later this month.
