In stark contrast to the well-received Brighten LP from 2021, Jerry Cantrell has return to much darker territory on his latest full length, I Want Blood. The LP is set for release October 18th via Double J Music and finds Cantrell working with producer Joe Barresi (Tool, Queens of the Stone Age, Melvins) to further cultivate his signature sound.
In addition to Cantrell's prowess as a songwriter and master craftsman, he has enlisted an all-star cast of collaborators on an album that features a towering hierarchy of heavy rock royalty. The album is bolstered by contributions from the likes of Duff McKagan (Guns N’Roses) and Robert Trujillo (Metallica), Gil Sharone (Team Sleep, Stolen Babies), Mike Bordin (Faith No More) as well as backing vocals from Lola Colette and Greg Puciato (Better Lovers, ex-Dillinger Escape Plan).
“This record is a serious piece of work. It’s a motherfucker,” confided Cantrell. “It’s hard, no doubt, and completely unlike Brighten. And that’s what you want, to end up in a different place. There’s a confidence to this album. I think it’s some of my best songwriting and playing, and certainly some of my best singing.”
Beginning the march towards the October release, Cantrell has shared the first single from the full length with the haunting track, "Vilified" With help from RObert Trujillo on bass and Gil Sharone on the kit, the track is a musically ominous, brilliantly constructed indicator of what's to come.
“’Vilified” travels a lot of places in just four and a half minutes,” Cantrell added. “It’s got a ferocity and really aggressive vibe to it.”
The single and the confirmation of Cantrell's next full length land as he embarks on a seven week stretch of live dates supporting Bush. The tour kicks off tonight (July 26th) in Bend, Oregon and wraps September 15th with a finale at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles. See the complete list of dates and cities below. Get tickets - HERE
