SoCal punk unit Joyce Manor has confirmed their next album, I Used To Go To This Bar. The effort was produced by Brett Gurewitz and is set to land January 3oth via Epitaph Records. The announcement follows the summer release of the first single, "All My Friends Are So Depressed" which introduced the band's next cycle.
Along with the news of the next album, Joyce Manor has also delivered a second preview from the project with the track, "Well, Whatever It Was." The pair of releases follows the acclaim 40 oz. to Fresno and arrives with a brand new Lance Bangs-directed video showcasing the band's smart wit combined with infectious songwriting.
A play on the Great British Bake-Off, the field of contestants include the likes of Noel and Liam Gallagher, Morrissey (played by Jose Maldonado of Sweet and Tender Hooligans, Kate Bush, Robert Smith and Joyce Manor themselves. The playful visual compliments Barry Johnson's narrative approach to songwriting.
Johnson shared of the single, “‘Well, Whatever It Was’ has got to be one of the most Southern California sounding songs ever recorded. I hear Jane’s Addiction in the verses, Beach Boys / Weezer in the chorus, and RHCP in the outro. It was LITERALLY produced by the guy from Bad Religion FFS. Everyone was just firing on all cylinders for this one. Joey Warnoker’s drumming, TLA’s mix, and Lenny Castro’s percussion all just sent it to the end-zone. This song would go insanely hard in a Shrek film.”
Along with the news of the new album, Joyce Manor have confirmed their first North American tour dates in support of the record. Joining forces with Militarie Gun, along with Teen Mortgage and Combat, the I Used to Go To This Bar tour starts March 9th in Phoenix, AZ and extends through May 15th where the trek ends in San Fransisco, CA.
