Earlier this year, the world of metal celebrated the return of one its most formative game changers. Some 25 years since the release of their lauded studio debut, Spit, Kittie confirmed their next era, announcing their signing to Sumerian Records and debuting their first showing of new music in well over a decade. Working with accomplished producer Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Rush, Alice In Chains, Korn), "Eyes Wide Open" marked the band's first new entry in 13 years.
Further solidifying their return and adding to the groundswell of momentum the band is riding, Kittie have shared a second powerful single with the arrival of "We Are Shadows". With the band's signature heft and poignant lyrical breadth on full display, the track further asserts the contemporary era of Kittie is the band at their very best.
"We Are Shadows is about the uncertainty of a future that we can no longer control. We have come to a critical place in life and in our world, and much like an eclipse overtaking the sun, we are losing the light," explains Morgan Lander. "The image of shadows slowly fading in the evening darkness, and the analogy of 'us' as shadows in the night really illustrates the possibility of slowly fading into oblivion. It is not a song of hope however, it’s a song of coming to terms with the damage we do and acceptance of our fate. We’ve let darkness take hold, and so we are resolved to fade in the night with it.”
On the strength of the first pair of releases on Sumerian Records, Kittie is set to hit the road for a series of live dates including festival appearances at Sick New World, Welcome To Rockville, Sonic Temple and more.
