Set to mark the 20th anniversary of the band's pivotal fourth full length album, Ashes of the Wake, metal titans Lamb of God have confirmed plans to release a deluxe anniversary edition August 30th via Epic Records and Legacy Recordings.
The expanded edition of the album will feature demo recordings and live renditions of favorites like "Remorse Is For the Dead" and "Now You’ve Got Something To Die For". The anniversary variation will also include updated versions of Lamb essentials from LA noise specialists HEALTH and Justin K Broadrick of Godflesh and Jesu.
To introduce the anniversary edition, Lamb of God has unveiled a refreshed version of the Ashes of the Wake bonus track in "Another Nail For Your Coffin" with the added muscle of metallic hardcore crew Kublai Khan TX and UK aggressors, Malevolence. The track was available exclusively on the Japanese version of Ashes of the Wake, which eventually saw a worldwide release for the 15th Anniversary edition of the album.
“I’m excited to see ‘Another Nail For Your Coffin’ get reborn! This has always been a really cool, unique song in the Lamb of God catalog but it’s been overlooked since it was a bonus track,” shared guitarist Mark Morton. “Matt (Honeycutt of Kublai Khan TX) and Alex (Taylor of Malevolence) both absolutely spit flames on this new, updated version, and gave it a ferocious modern energy. I’m glad to see this tune get some shine after all this time!”
Frontman Randy Blythe spoke candidly about the project, “I’m not much for re-recording our existing material – old songs are a snapshot of where we were as a band at that time, for better or worse. But when the idea came up to have a guest vocalist re-do my parts on ‘Another Nail For Your Coffin,’ I was all for it, especially if we could get two younger heavy hitters to bring a fresh approach to the song.
Anyone who has seen Malevolence and Kublai Khan TX know that Alex and Matt crush it – it’s an honor to have these dudes bring new life to the tune 20 years after we first recorded it."
Marking the 20th anniversary of the landmark releases, Lamb of God will team with Mastodon for the massive summer trek dubbed the Ashes of Leviathan Tour. On each night of the 29-date North American campaign, both Lamb of God and Mastodon will perform their respective masterpieces in full (Mastodon will mark the 20th anniversary of the seminal Leviathan) - offering a rare opportunity for fans to be a part of history.
In addition to the magnitude of the monumental tour, Ashes of Leviathan will also feature a walloping supporting roster, with opening sets from Kerry King and Sheffield's finest Malevolence kicking off the festivities. Massachusetts veterans Unearth also joining the run in select dates.
