Heavy progressives Loathe have confirmed the long-awaited follow-up to the 2020 breakout I Let It in and It Took Everything and the 2021 instrumental release, The Things They Believe with the announcement of the July 17th release of A Stranger to You. The album lands via SharpTone Records and marks the first official full length studio release from Loathe in more than five years.
Last year, Loathe issued what was first purposed as a standalone single in mammoth, "Gifted Every Strength." The track showcases the band's fluid combination of rich melody and explosive volatility, reigniting excitement at what was next from the collective.
Paired with the announcement of the new album, Loathe have enlisted NOWHERE2RUN, the latest iteration of Code Orange members Jami Morgan and Eric “Shade” Balderose, to introduce the new album with the single, "Revenant." Backed by the hostile vocals of Kadeem France along with sonic crush of guitarist Erik Bickerstaffe, the harsh electronic accents from Morgan and Balderose make for a lush, layered track that adds an air of sophistication to contemporary heavy music.
A Stranger to You was produced by the band's own Erik Bickerstaffe and Feisal El-Khazragi and features a healthy roster of collaborative creatives. Among the broad range of artists featured, jazzy/electronic multi-instrumentalist and producer Jordan Rakei, fellow UK heavy contemporaries Static Dress, rapper/lyricist bucki suagr and multi-hyphenate Mansur Brown.
In support of A Stranger to You, Loathe will begin their Australian run next month with Static Dress. The band will then return to Europe for a stretch of dates spanning festival appearances and supporting dates for Mastodon. Loathe are set to make domestic U.S. appearances at both Lollapalooza in Chicago this July as well as Louder Than Life in Louisville this September. See the list of confirmed dates and cities below.
