Kicking off the year, Al Jourgensen confirmed that Ministry would revisit their hugely influential synthpop past. Though long estranged from the early, EBM-driven entires that first introduced Ministry to the masses, the pioneering frontman, after decades, was ready to revisit the songs that have long been omitted from the setlist. .
Landing late March via Cleopatra Records, Ministry released The Squirrely Years Revisited. The twelve-track collection featured refreshed editions of some of the band's most enduring, synthpop classics, many of which have not been rehashed in some four decades. Along with three bonus tracks, the collection featured reworked versions of cult classics like “Everyday Is Halloween,” “Work For Love,” “I’m Not An Effigy,” and “I’ll Do Anything For You.”
Documenting hell freezing over with Ministry taking on material that was thought long dormant, Jourgensen teamed with directors Vicente Cordero and Ben Garcia for the first-ever music video for the classic, “I’ll Do Anything For You."
Celebrating the release of the retrospective refresh, the live configuration of Ministry in John Bechdel, guitarists Monte Pittman and Cesar Soto, Pepe Clarke Magaña and Paul D’Amour are currently on the road for The Squirrely Years Tour which began last month. With a setlist consisting mostly of early, synth heavy Ministry, the performances have showcased cuts rarely seen live from the band.
Underscoring the classic consistency of the tour, Ministry began the tour supported by Nitzer Ebb with My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult completing the remainder of the dates. Die Krupps has been consistent as opener for all dates.
