It seem as though the inimitable Al Jourgensen is making peace with his synthpop past. Having long been estranged from the early, EBM-driven material that first introduced Ministry to the masses, it seems as though the pioneering frontman is now ready to take a stroll down memory lane.
Set for release on March 28th via Cleopatra Records, Ministry will release The Squirrely Years Revisited. The twelve-track collection will feature refreshed editions of some of the band's most enduring, synthpop classics, many of which have not been rehashed in some four decades. Along with three bones tracks, the collection will feature reworked versions of cult classics like “Everyday Is Halloween,” “Work For Love,” “I’m Not An Effigy,” and “I’ll Do Anything For You.”
Speaking candidly about the unique relationship Jourgensen has with his body of work, the Ministry architect confided, “Since I hated my early stuff for decades, I decided to take ownership of it and do it right."
Coinciding with the release of the retrospective refresh, the live configuration of Ministry in John Bechdel, guitarists Monte Pittman and Cesar Soto, Pepe Clarke Magaña and Paul D’Amour will hit the road for The Squirrely Years Tour kicking off April 29th. The setlist will consist mostly of early, synth heavy Ministry, taking on tracks that have long been celebrated but rarely showcased live by the band.
Underscoring the classic quality of the tour and the setlist, Ministry will be accompanied by Nitzer Ebb for the first half of the run with My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult jumping on for the remainder. Die Krupps is confirmed as the opener for all dates.
