CALLIGRAM – POSITION | MOMENTUM – BLACK METAL
Calligram is a testament to how diverse the black metal scene is becoming. Their fusion of the extreme with classic d-beat punk busts down barriers while still being “trve” enough for even the gnarliest black metal fan. Tight composition and expert pacing means there isn’t a single moment of filler or fluff on this album, every note is essential to the journey. Dive on in!

CROWN MAGNETAR – EVERYTHING BLEEDS – DEATHCORE
Everything Bleeds will ensure that, indeed, everything is bleeding by the end of the weekend. Breakneck deathcore with technical flair, Crown Magnetar offer exactly no mercy. This album shows Crown Magnetar full committing to what they do best: deathcore meant to destroy.

END REIGN – THE WAY OF ALL FLESH IS DECAY – HARDCORE
The Way Off All Flesh Is Decay brings a certain level of desolation to hardcore. End Reign harness the pissed off nature of hardcore, but through the bleak lens of black metal, The Way Off All Flesh Is Decay has that energy, even if it doesn’t entirely have the sound. The pain and melody underscoring each track make this both a beautiful and excoriating listen. One of the most interesting hardcore albums I’ve heard in a long time.

EVILE – THE UNKNOWN – THRASH
Evile is one of the UK’s most esteemed thrash metal outfits and for good reason! These guys continue to carve out new paths for themselves even after nearly two decades in the scene. The Unknown is more of a lumbering beast than a shredding wraith of an album. But dialing back the speed does not mean there is a lack of savagery here. Exploring more emotional depths, Evile have clearly left a mark on thrash.

KIM DRACULA – A GRADUAL DECLINE IN MORALE – TRAP METAL/HARDCORE
The enigma that is Kim Dracula is impossible to explain in the few sentences I have here. Like a musical Frankenstein, they have combined an unending list of genres and attitudes, for a fun, sometimes confusing, but always enjoyable 20-track debut. This is one of those albums where you will not know what is going to happen next, but you’ll be glad you’re along for the ride.
VOYAGER – FEARLESS IN LOVE – PROGRESSIVE METAL
Wrapping up this week we have a colorful and bouncy new offering from Aussie proggers Voyager. This album is a masterclass in progression, as the band explores new territory, without completely abandoning what their existing fans know and love. It is familiar enough for existing fans to connect and intriguing enough to invite newcomers.
