RIvers of Nihil Debut Mammoth New Single, "Hellbirds"

- By Ramon Gonzales

The band begins the European leg of Lorna Shore's Pain Remains tour next month along with Ingested and Distant.

The reconfigured line-up of Rivers of Nihil continue to assert how well they are working in creative lockstep with the release of a second single from their early 2023 recording sessions.

The stint in the studio marked the first collaborative effort with bassist/backup vocalist Adam Biggs moving to the band's lead vocalist and the first appearance of new guitarist Andy Thomas, formerly of Black Crown Initiate.

Debuting "The Sub-Orbital Blues" earlier this year, Rivers of Nihil marked the beginning of a new era, one that tapped a new performative potential while retaining the band's uncompromisingly heavy signature.

Now, Rivers of Nihil have shared a second serving from their 2023 studio session with the release of "Hellbirds". Adam Biggs explained how the track actually stemmed from the studio sessions for the 201 album, The Work, but has since evolved.

Biggs said, "'Hellbirds' is a song that was actually largely written during the sessions for The Work. We couldn't find a place for the song on that album, but we knew it would see the light of day sometime because it's easily one of the heaviest songs we've ever written, and we've reworked it to display the raw power of the new lineup.

The lyrics are written from the perspective of someone you might consider a 'typical' person in this day and age; worn out, drug addicted, nihilistic and living in the wake of so many things he can't control. It's an anthem for people who hail from dead end towns like us."

Enlisting heavy music auteurs David Brodsky and Allison Woest of My Good Eye Visuals, the accompanying video frames the contrast of the band's massive wall of sound crammed into a dive bar setting for one helluva local gig.

The track lands as Rivers of Nihil prepare to embark on the European leg of Lorna Shore's Pain Remains Tour. The run will also include support from Ingested and deathcore hitters, Distant. A complete list of dates and cities can be found below.
