Last month, Greek extreme metal veterans Rotting Christ debuted the first single from their landmark 14th studio album, Pro Xristou, due out this spring via Season of Mist.
The introductory single in "Like Father, Like Son" unloaded a mighty epic entry detailing the narrative of legacy passed down from father to son. Backed by stellar showings from guitarist/vocalist Sakis Tolis and drummer Themis Tolis, "Like Father, Like Son" asserted the beginning of the modern era of Rotting Christ.
For the second offering from the album, the band have furnished another grandiose submission that doubles down on the band's embrace of the mythical side of extreme metal with the single, Irish King of Tara"Saoirse". Serving as a musical tribute to the Pagan royalty in Irish King of Tara - the track frames the historical opposition of the expansion of Christianity with a anthemic, war cry of a single.
In fact, the english translation of the Gaelic term "Saoirse" is "Freedom".
Showcasing a composition that is as equally epic as the plotline that inspired the track, Rotting Christ execute a performance that further asserts at that 35 years in, the band is as great as they have ever been.
Indicative by the latest single, the depth of the album is as vast as it's performative prowess. Rotting Christ frames Nordic mythology to present a dynamic tale of Pagan culture in the face of Christian opposition. The album offers substantive merit with a storyline that as epic as it's stylistic execution - a true achievement for a band marking 35 years of existence.
Rotting Christ has added a brief run of Northwest and Canadian tour dates, preceding the May 24th delivery date of their next album. Aligning with melodic black metal mystics Uada and American black metal vets Abigail Williams, the trio of bands will cover the Northwest region and select Canadian markets on the run. See the list of remaining date below.
