An extension of the creative breadth of System of A Down architect Daron Malakian, his Scars on Broadway project convened for a rare live set at the Hollywood Palladium in what was a rightfully hot ticket. Marking the live return of the band, the evening was the first performance of the year and offered the first chance for fans to experience the live intensity of Malakian's newest collection of music with songs from Addicted to The Violence.
Given the rarity of the set, Malakian leveraged that fact by giving the rabid fans on the floor a marathon performance, constructing a show that ran nearly two hours and spanned almost 30 songs in total. Adding to the magnitude of the evening, Malakian ensured the run of show was loaded with gems, performing a cache of songs from the catalog for the first time since 2019.
Scars on Broadway essentials like "Funny," "Lives," "Talkin' Shit" and "Whoring Streets" made the cut for the first time in years, showcasing Malakian's signature live intensity and his definitive songwriting signature - sending the Palladium into all out pandemonium. Equally effective were the newest entries from Scars On Broadway with a healthy portion of the set devoted to the live debut of Addicted to the Violence anchors like "Killing Spree," "Satan Hussein," the album's title track and one of the hardest-hitting highlights of the night with madcap "Your Lives Burn".
Capping the set with a trio of Scars' most enduring cuts, Malakian rallied the room to finish strong with "Exploding/Reloading," "Stoner Hate" and "They Say" leveling the venue. Nearly two decades deep, the vivacity and venom of the tracks felt relevant as ever as Malakian reiterated his rank as one of heavy music's most rightfully celebrated contributors.
