The move served as an important transition for Scowl earned universal acclaim for their 2023 full length, Psychic Dance Routine. Paired with the news of the band's new digs, Scowl delivered their first showing on Dead Oceans with the arrival of the single, "Special".
Now, the band have confirmed the eagerly-awaited news of their first full length studio album on the label with Are We All Angels. The album arrives April 4th is again pairs Scowl with accomplished producer Will Yip, who took on the same task with 2023's Psychic Dance Routine.
Coupled with the news of the album's pending release, Scowl have teamed with director Sean Stout to debut the music video for the single, "Not Hell, Not Heaven". Filmed at 924 Gilman Street, the iconic California venue holds a special place for band as three of the members first met there.
As for the venom that drives Scowl's sound on their latest single, vocalist kat Moss shares “It’s about feeling victimized and being a victim, but not wanting to identify with being a victim."
Moss added, “It’s trying to find grace in the fact that I have my power. I live in my reality. You have to deal with whatever you’re dealing with, and it ain’t working for me.”
As for the direction of the record, guitarist Malachi Greene explained how at the end of the day, Are We Are Angels is Scowl's creative exercise in aggression. “Hardcore and punk have sculpted how we operate, what we want to do as a band, and how we participate. At our core, we are a punk and a hardcore band, regardless of how the song shifts and changes.”
