The Philly hardcore outliers go for the phallic effect on their first new single since their celebrated 2022 full length, ‘Diaspora Problems’.
Kicking off their highly-anticipated co-headlining run with LA hardcore agitators ZULU this week, Philly renegades Soul Glo have debuted their first showing of new music since last year’s universally acclaimed Diaspora Problems.
Working from slow burn to raging inferno, “If I Speak (Shut The Fuck Up)” underscores the band’s live volatility with a three-minute assault on the senses. The single showcases the articulate aggression of frontman Pierce Jordan as he confronts the disparity of his surrounding culture. Harnessing that visceral reaction into the song, Soul Glo unloads a hardcore haymaker that more than substantiates their hype.
He explains, “’If I Speak’ is a song about channeling one’s voice and perspective through art or another creative expression. You can hear when people spend more time online than on their music. You can tell when people are more focused on a visual statement than a sound.”
Teaming with director Ava LaPrima, the very NSFW visual frames an especially provocative, plenty phallic scenario that speaks to the band’s willingness to push the limits, confront hardcore norms and explore daring artistic terrain. The censored version of the video is available below. The complete, UNCENSORED version can be found – HERE
The co-headlining tour featuring Soul Glo and ZULU is now underway. The 23-date jaunt features ZULU touring in support of their celebrated Flatspot Records full length, A New Tomorrow. As for Soul Glo, the tour bookends a pivotal year in the band’s touring career, punctuating a year that has seen the band deliver highlight sets at Coachella, Pitchfork Fest and KEXP’s The Thing Festival among many others.
