New York death metal stalwarts Suffocation last released a full length studio album back in 2017 with their lauded LP, …of the Dark Light. Now, the long-tenured OGs are have announced their long-awaited follow up and the studio debut with since acquired vocalist, Ricky Myers.
Hymns From The Apocrypha marks the first studio effort from Suffocation in six years and the ninth installment in the band’s more than three decade long run. Enlisting Christian Donaldson (BENEATH THE MASSACRE, INGESTED) to co-produce the project, the band also recruited Dominic Grimard (CRYPTOPSY, SHADOW OF INTENT) to assist.
Additionally, Suffocation landed art by Greek illustrator Giannis Nakos of Remedy Art Design (VOMITORY, THE CROWN) to complete the menacing aesthetic for arguably, the band’s most relentless offering to date.
The band’s bassist Derek Boyer spoke about the pending release and how the album not only meets the high standard indicative of a Suffocation record, but exceeds expectations. “This is my fifth full-length studio album with SUFFOCATION and this album came out SICK! It features all of the brutal, technical, chaotic twists and turns everyone would expect from SUFFOCATION, plus new elements that are out of the normal realm one might expect. This is the sophomore effort of working with Christian Donaldson(who mixed and mastered Live In North America) and he absolutely KILLED IT on this one!!! We can’t wait to bring these songs to the stage and crush everything in our path!”
Along with the announcement, the band has debuted the first offering from the album with the precise audio pummel of “Seraphim Enslavement”. A savvy combination of musicality and muscle, the track is a near five minute slobberknocker that never eases off the throttle.
Vocalist Ricky Myers added of the track, “We are thrilled to unveil our 11th full-length album, Hymns From The Apocrypha, a creatively composed piece that blends our style of music with lyrical depth and intricate artwork. This album is a testament to our devotion to brutal music, which we display in the video of our single, ‘Seraphim Enslavement’, a visual journey that complements the album’s concept.”
Hymns From The Apocrypha arrives November 3rd via Nuclear Blast Records.
