The lone founding member of deathcore OGs Suicide Silence has announced he is taking an extended hiatus from the band he helped establish more than two decades ago. Guitarist Chris Garza took to his social media platform to confirm the news with the statement, explaining that after 23 years, he is stepping away from Suicide Silence - though he did say the move was only a temporary pause.
“What’s up everyone,
As some of you have noticed, I’ve missed the last couple Suicide Silence shows. It’s because I’m on a hiatus from the band. SuSi has been on my brain every day since 2002 with no break. Everything is fine. I just need to press the reset button so I can make the right decisions in the near future. As the Terminator said. I’ll be back. –Garza“
While the move is unexpected for Garza, the guitarist has developed his own lane becoming the host of the popular Chris Garza podcast. The announcement also isn't the first hiatus within the band. Bakc in 2018, guitarist Mark Meylmun announced he was taking a "radical sabbatical" to spend more time with his family and concentrate on his personal health.
As for Suicide Silence, the band is confirmed for the European leg of the Grizzly WInter tour supporting Slaughter to Prevail along with Dying Fetus. The tour is set to begin next month and wrap February 8th in Prague. No word on who will be stepping in during Garza's extended break.
