Metalcore vets Underoath have been on a tear to close out 2024. In the last few months, the band has unleashed a stream of new music, delivering "Teeth" and "Survivor's Guilt" in back-to-back months, all while marking the 20th anniversary of the seminal, They're Only Chasing Safety, with a lengthy, sold out tour.
Showcasing the band's keen ability to celebrate their roots all while progressively pressing on, Underoath have dropped a third single with the energized "Generation No Surrender". Asserting the band's signature volatility and their willingness to venture outside the confines of metalcore, the track is a dynamic show of songwriting, one that combines musicianship with a menacing performance.
Vocalist Spencer Chamberlain shared how the latest single was intended to set the bar for the band in a live setting and the kind of urgency that is at the core of the tune. “We wanted to write a song that would be a ripper live — something that moves an entire room, something we can all get behind and relate to."
Chamberlain further detailed the thematic connectivity of the track, "This song is written from the perspective that, if 'they' told us the world was ending and the apocalypse was upon us, we wouldn’t be surprised — nor would we run from it. I think we’d face that battle head-on. I feel like we’ve reached a point in our lives where nothing surprises us anymore. We’ve all seen and been through a lot of shit, and I fear we’re never told the truth. That pisses me off. I’m sure it pisses all of us off, which is why I feel like we are all Generation No Surrender. It’s not just about age — it’s about all of us.”
Underoath will maintain a relentless pace moving into the new year. The band will finish out the North American leg of their 20th Anniversary They're Only Chasing Safety Tour before trekking to Australia for the first time since 2019 to support Alexisonfire for a run of dates. Underoath are then set to join the Rise Of the Roach tour, joining Papa Roach and Rise Against for a comprehensive North American trek that will include appearances at Sonic Temple Art & Music Festival in Columbus, OH and at Welcome to Rockville in Daytona Beach, FL this May.
