Heavy goth practitioners Unto Others have maintained a steady trickle of new music in recent months. Earlier this spring, the band debuted their first reveal of their next iteration with "Butterfly".
A masterful weave of the band's pedigree that spans goth, guitar rock, punk, black metal and heavy metal, "Butterfly" marked the band's next era following the acclaim of their Strength cycle - which fruited the celebrated 2021 LP and the supplemental EP release, Strength II... Deep Cuts just last year.
Shortly thereafter, Unto Others delivered "Raigeki", a track that asserted Gabriel Franco as one of the best songwriters in the game. Boasting big melody via soaring guitars and Franco's sweeping vocals, the track embraced a bit of NWOBHM worship and built on the breadth of Unto Others.
Now, the Portland-based collective has confirmed what fans had hoped. Set for September 20th, Never, Neverland will serve as the eagerly-awaited full length follow-up to Strength and will be released via Century Media Records. The album finds Unto Others entrusting the stewardship of British producer Tom Dalgety (Ghost, The Cult) and emerging from a period of personal distress coming away from the whirlwind two year cycle supporting Strength.
Songwriter and Unto Others architects Gabriel Franco explained how the hard-earned success of Strength, came with a costly price tag. “My goal was to push this thing so hard that more people know us as Unto Others, said Franco. “At the end of it, I was burnt out, full of anxiety and raw nerves."
Franco would find his respite in songwriting, further developing Unto Other's masterful concoction of goth, rock, punk, black and heavy metal. Franco explained how the band's next album marks a turning point in their trajectory, one that embraces collaboration in an effort to discover their full potential.
"'Mana' and 'Strength' can almost be pushed together. I had an iron grip over those albums. Every beat needed to be where I wanted it and how I wanted it to sound. With this one, I took a much looser approach and gave the band members a lot more input. This is the first record with Brandon doing backup vocals instead of myself. Even though I still wrote the core of the songs, this one is a much more collaborative effort. I kind of let go of it because I realized it was killing me. And the record came out better for it. It’s the best thing we’ve ever done."
Officially beginning the next chapter for Unto Others, the band has debuted a thir preview from the album with "Angel of the Night". As with the previous two singles, Franco reveals that the intention was to explore new terrain while ensuring the signature was specific to Unto Others. "I've always wanted to do a power ballad, and I think this might be the closest we ever get. A goth power ballad maybe. Sebastian’s [Silva, guitarist] solo in this one is my favorite of the record. He really did a phenomenal job.”
Along with the announcement, Unto Others are preparing to begin a run on the road with a series of European dates, followed by a massive North American tour supporting W.A.S.P. for the 40th anniversary of their debut album. A complete list of dates and cities can be found below. Get tickets - HERE
