The songs were recorded with Converge’s Kurt Ballou prior to the band’s touring van accident this summer.
Following what has been a life-altering summer for the Delaware metallic prospects, Year of the Knife are showing their resilience with the recent release of two pummeling new tracks in “Last Laugh” and “Wish”.
The pair of tracks were the fruit of a recording session with the legendary Kurt Ballou of Converge – a studio session that took place prior to the horrific events this last June, when the band was involved in a catastrophic touring van accident that changed the trajectory of the band.
While every member of the band sustained injuries as a result, vocalist Madi Watkins suffered significant injuries that forced her to remain in a Utah facility for months following the accident. In a recent update, family revealed that Madi had, “fractured and broken just about every bone in her body” and endured significant brain trauma requiring extensive occupational, speech and physical therapy.
Despite such insurmountable odds, the band has shown signs of life beyond the accident with the latest delivery of new music. The pair of tracks enlist contributions from Dylan Walker of Full of Hell and Devin Swank of Ohio Death Metal crew Sanguisugabogg for a musical one-two that underscores YOTK’s sonic bombast.
Both tracks are now available via Pure Noise Records. Stream the pair of singles below. Stay up to date and contribute to the Madi Watkins’ recovery fund – HERE
