Sourcing inspiration from mid-70's era prog pillars, Blood Incantation landed on Paul Fishman's project of the same name - more specifically, the 1976 album In Search of Ancient Gods. The album was crafted as expansive musical accompaniment to the works of Chariots of the Gods? author Erich Von Daniken. Aligning with Blood Incantation's otherworldly exploratory lean, the meld of style and substance offered the perfect inspirational intersection - thus resulting in the interstellar death metal masterclass in Absolute Elsewhere.
Following Blood Incantation's achievement in ambient with Timewave Zero, and the 2023 maxi-single Luminescent Bridge, Absolute Elsewhere runs an immersive 45 minutes and consists of just two sprawling movements, "The Stargate" and "The Message". Working with revered producer Arthur Rizk, the band retreated to Berlin, Germany to begin work at Hansa Tonstudios. The legendary destination was home to some of the 1970s most definitive prog works from the likes of Tangerine Dream, Eloy and Brian Eno to name a few.
The lore of the record, combined with the immersive quality of the compositions make for a live experience that really is second to none. On their headlining Absolute ElseTour, Blood Incantation functioned as otherworldly shaman - stewards of the unknown navigating a musical journey that few can execute, even fewer can grasp logically and yet everyone can appreciate. The band's technical prowess combined with their artistic proficiency make for a live set that not only sounds true to the record, but underscores the enormity of the project - both in concept and construction.
The sold out crowd at The Regent in Los Angeles spent the duration of the band's incendiary set, awestruck - jaws dropped with just how transportive the set translated. The live execution of "The Stargate" and "The Message" proved transcendent, taking the audience through space and time in a way that made the theatre feel more like a portal to different plane of existence. Absolute Elsewhere is vast, boundary-confronting death metal that jettisons the listener to an otherworldly frontier - well worth the price of admission.
With the consensus already suggesting that Blood Incantation have submitted an album of the year effort, the live iteration further emphasizes that. Blood Incantation are not from this planet.
