Legendary guitarist and songwriter Jerry Cantrell is riding high on the strength of his latest solo album, I Want Blood. Completing a run of North American headlining dates in support of the album, Cantrell's 'I Want Blood' tour has proven a resounding success and an auspicious start to the 2025 touring year for the venerated heavy rock icon.
Before the trek's triumphant conclusion with a March 9th Pacific Northwest home turf victory lap, Cantrell along with his accomplices Eliot Lorango, Zach Throne, vocalist Greg Puciato and drummer Roy Mayorga held a clinic with their Los Angeles tour stop in front of a capacity Belasco Theater. Showcasing new selections from from his latest album including "Vilified", "Off the Rails" and the driving title track, Cantrell's lofty rank as a generational talent and consummate showman was clearly reiterated.
His legacy was further underscored with a collection of Alice In Chains' essentials that made for a durable setlist that presented no break in the action. From "Them Bones" to "Down In A Hole" to the Layne Staley-penned "Hate to Feel" from AiC's iconic full length, Dirt, Cantrell's evergreen songwriting quality was brought into focus over the course of a nearly 20-song performance.
Capping the performance with a three-song encore that touched on both the Alice In Chains era as well as Cantrell's more beloved solo entries, fans were treated to a summation that punctuated an already powerful performance. From the most recent "Let It Lie" to the radiant single "Brighten" to the inimitable "Rooster", Cantrell and his counterparts proved to be an irrefutable example of the enduring, evergreen quality of heavy music - with more than three decades of rightfully earned adulation packed highlighted in the two-hour masterclass.
