Released today, the first teaser trailer for the upcoming prequel series offers an exciting return to the infamous summer camp. Children’s campfire songs, bloodsoaked gurneys, and haunting imagery build towards the arrival of Linda Cardellini's Pamela Voorhees, whose chilling final line, "Mommy's here," is enough to send a shiver down any longtime fan's spine.

Rather than focusing on the hockey mask-wearing icon audiences know best, Crystal Lake shifts its attention back to the original slasher villain, Jason's mother. The eight-episode series explores Pamela Voorhees in the aftermath of young Jason's (Callum Vinson) drowning, following her grief as it spirals into something far more sinister. Cardellini - a longtime genre veteran - leads the cast alongside William Catlett, Devin Kessler, Cameron Scoggins, and Gwendolyn Sundstrom.
Developed by showrunner Brad Caleb Kane (It: Welcome to Derry) and produced by powerhouse studio A24, Crystal Lake has had a long and complicated road to the screen following years of development changes. Judging by this first footage, however, the wait may have been worth it. The teaser leans into imagery that made the original 1980 classic so memorable while hinting at more energy and a more psychological character study centered on one of horror's most infamous mother figures.
After years of legal disputes left the Friday the 13th franchise largely dormant, Crystal Lake represents the property's long-awaited return. If this first teaser is any indication, the franchise may finally be ready to carve out a terrifying new chapter when the series premieres on Peacock on October 15.
