Machine Head's Message Is As Potent As Ever - Robb Flynn Guests On Mosh Talks

- By Ramon Gonzales

For those keeping score, Machine Head has been making socially aware metal since the early 90s.

Robb Flynn certainly walks the talk. The Machine Head frontman sat in with Knotfest's Beez for a rousing discussion on Mosh Talks that quickly established where Flynn stands on the current fight against police brutality. Dating back to Machine Head's debut in "Burn My Eyes," Robb recounts being in the middle of the fallout from the Rodney King protests in Oakland. Skip forward nearly 30 years later and Robb is out in the streets again protesting along with his wife, kids, and 83 year old father.

"This is not the time to stand on the fucking sides. This is not the time to be silent. This shit's been going on for fucking years now and I am over it. I'm over it. I'm gonna say it and if you don't like my stance or my opinion and I lose you as a fan, bye-bye," said Flynn.

The conversation would continue with theme of fighting off complacency both in music and message as Robb also detailed that Wacław "Vogg" Kiełtyka (Decapitated) has played a solo on a soon-to-be-released Machine Head song. He also explained that he and Logan Mader have been exchanging song ideas and working together.

As for what fans can expect from Machine Head, Flynn expressed, "I just don't wanna wait another year to get music out. The music's here. The music's done. A lot of the lyrics that I have written are very much now and they need to be heard, now."
