After teasing the release of a joint effort, the celebrated tandem of Bad Omens and Poppy have released their eagerly-awaited joint single, "V.A.N" ahead of the start of the European leg of the Concrete Forever Tour.
The track, which was written and produced by Bad Omens' Nosh Sebastian and serves as a glimpse of the forthcoming music featured on the Concrete Jungle Original Soundtrack. The supplemental release is an extension of the band's The Death of Peace of Mind LP and will be the soundtrack for Bad Omens' Concrete Jungle comic book series.
Citing video game entries like Portal and tv and film staples like Stranger Things and Ex-Machina as creative references, Sebastian composed an industrial metal epic complete with dynamic instrumentation and a masterful vocal performance from Poppy that shifts from ethereal to maniacal.
The accompanying visual, penned by Sebastian, Poppy and Garrett Nicholson and directed by the latter two amplifies the intensity of the track, depicting the foreboding scenario of rogue A.I. out for blood.
Sebastian shared of the single, "That's a song that started just with the hook 'Violence against nature', and then after saving the project with the acronym and seeing it we realized it could be fun to think of 'VAN' as a name. Thus the rabbit hole of ideas began that led us to decide to write lyrics from the perspective of an artificial intelligence gone rogue."
The collaboration also previews the potent combination of the two as they embark on the European leg of the Concrete Forever Tour. The run begins in Berlin January 27th. For fans unable to make the trek to Europe, the band has announced their sold-out performances from Cologne, Germany on January 28 and January 29, will be livestreamed exclusively via Veeps.
