The 5-time Grammy Award-winning songstress Brittany Howard debuted her hardcore passion project during an intimate set in Nashville over the weekend, The show featured supporting sets from Snõõper, Inner Peace and Second Spirit with all profits from the event going to local charity organizations including Second Harvest Food Bank, Nashville Launch Pad, & Southern Movement Committee.
Kumite, which presumably takes its namesake from the 1988 Jean Claude Van Damme action flick Bloodsport, is the comprised of Howard along with the members of Second Spirit serving as the live band. Among the highlights from the weekend introduction, Howard's voice atop metallic hardcore proved powerful - underscoring the kind of range that makes her a generational talent.
Additionally, the band highlighted some of their shared influences with a cover of "AM/PM" by American Nightmare that saw Howard strap on her guitar with Second Spirit vocalist Jared Colby grabbing the mic. Check some of the footage below.
