Following the band's triumphant showing at Sick New World in Las Vegas earlier this spring, Coal Chamber recently confirmed they would need to postpone their appearance at Louder Than Life festival in Lousiville this September. With Dead Poet Society, No Resolve and Freeze The Fall all joining the festival roster, we now have some insight as to what compelled the band to sit out the festival.
Earlier this spring, Coal Chamber drummer Mike Cox confirmed that he had been privately battling cancer. After a year of chemotherapy and radiation treatment, his prognosis was positive, but has since had another important update. Revealing he will be having what he hope is final cancer surgery, Cox will undergo a procedure and will need to recover. As a result, Coal Chamber opted to postpone their festival plans.
See the statement released by COx and shared by the band below. Strength and solidarity to the Cox family and Coal Chamber band and crew.
“Please read I wanted to share a quick update!
After months of scans, tests, and appointments, I’m beyond grateful to say that I passed all of my recent tests and finally got the green light from my doctors for what we hope will be my final cancer surgery.
Because of that, Coal Chamber will be postponing our performance at Louder Than Life. While I’m bummed to miss it, this is the news my family and I have been fighting for, and I couldn’t be more excited to take this next step.
Thank you to everyone who has supported me throughout this long cancer journey. Your love, encouragement, and positive energy have meant the world to me.
My focus now is on surgery, recovery, and getting back on stage with my Coal Chamber family as soon as possible. The future is looking bright, and I can’t wait to see you all again soon!
Fuck Cancer!
