Among extreme music's formidable voices emerging in the post-pandemic era, Florida black metal unit WORM offered an enchanting concoction of sonic sorcery that managed to put Miami on the map. The band's 2021 Foreverglade was celebrated for it's vehement meld of death metal backbone and symphonic black metal theatrics. Incorporating eerie atmospherics and grandiose presentation, WORM was championed among the underground in a way that suggested a longer tenure than actuality.
Teaming with lauded duo Dream Unending, the pairing delivered the acclaimed split Starpath and further climbed the ranks of heavy music's more ambitious agitators - constructing massive compositions that drew listeners deeper and deeper in the world of WORM.
Now, the duo of vocalist Phantom Slaughter and guitarist Wroth Septentrion have unveiled their next extreme music odyssey with the confirmation of Necropalace. The album is due out February 13th and marks the transition to new record label home, Century Media. Aligning with producer Charlie Koryn (Morbid Angel) and a final and master from the venerated Arthur Rizk, the collection of music offers a spiraling soundtrack that toes the line between enchantment and exorcism.
Vocalist Phantom Slaughter shared, “Welcome to the domain of dread known as NECROPALACE. This fortress has kept my memories and nightmares for centuries. Risen from ancient slumber, the curse is once again free to haunt starlit nights. While approaching the icy gates of Castle Ravenblood, a swirling mist begins to form. Phantom figures surround you. Enter if you dare but be warned, the darkness may consume your mortal soul forever. The ultimate evil has returned."
Along with the introduction of Necropalace, WORM have delivered their very first music video with the 12-minute immersion into their haunting underworld with the album's title track. Entrusting their vision to director Norman Cabrera (Danzig, Walking Dead, Fright Night II), the lengthy clip emphasizes the otherworldy quality of the music, setting a high bar for WORM's initial outing.
Offering some insight to the overall vision and source material for WORM's unholy aesthetic, Phantom Slaughter further explained, “Outside of exhuming obscure symphonic black metal tapes from 1996, much inspiration for Worm comes from my obsession with 80s/90s horror."
In addition to the respected personnel that worked on the album, Necropalace also features only one especially significant collaborator. Guesting on the closing track of the album, "Witchmoon - The Infernal Masquerade," virtuoso Marty Friedman showcases his signature shred in what will no doubt bring the epic album to a climatic close.
